Southern Belle Stylista: The Southern Belle Sentience

The Southern Belle Sentience

sen·tience
noun
\ˈsen(t)-sh(ē-)ən(t)s, ˈsen-tē-ən(t)s\
1: a sentient quality or state
2: feeling or sensation as distinguished from perception and thought

Being a Southern Belle isn't just a thought. It's an experience and a way of life.

When most people think of what a "southern belle" looks like, they picture Gone With The Wind, big fluffy dresses, and even bigger hair. My version is a little bit different than the sterotype.

Instead of jamming to back-country tunes, I listen to indie rock and rap. Rather than waiting for a man to sweep me off my feet, I'm a feminist trying to become my own Prince Charming. Far from the stereotype's traditional ways, I consider myself edgy and free-thinking.

Although I do some "traditional" southern belle activities (I was presented as a Jack and Jill Debutante in 2010, I occasionally rock a sky-high curly 'do, and am known to traipse around in skirts and dresses most of the time), I believe that I have always added a truly unique flavor and considerable amount of mystery to the term.

I hope you enjoy this blog; my interpretation of what it means to be a modern southern belle.

Love,
Lindsay
